CPSC, Dell Announce Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries

The recalled batteries were sold with the following Dell notebook computers: Latitude™ D410, D505, D510, D600, D610, D800, D810; Inspiron™ 510M, 600M, 6000, 8600, 9200, 9300, XPS Gen 2; and Dell Precision™ M20 and M70 mobile workstations. The batteries were also sold separately, including as secondary batteries and in response to service calls. The batteries insert into the battery bay located on the underside of the notebook. "Dell" and "Made in Japan" or "Made in China" are stamped on the batteries. The identification number for each battery appears on a white sticker. Customers should have this number available when they contact Dell to determine if their battery is part of the recall. Hazard: These batteries can overheat, which could pose a fire risk. Remedy: Customers should contact Dell to determine if their notebook computer battery is part of this recall. If it is, consumers should immediately stop using the battery as a power source for their notebook computer. Dell will provide a free replacement battery.

CPSC, Dell Inc. Announce Recall of Power Adapters for Notebook Computers

Sold as an option for Dell notebook computers including their Latitude D400, D500, D505, D600, D800, X300, and Inspiron 300M, 500M, 510M, 600M, I8500 and I8600. "Dell," "Dell P/N W1451" is printed on top of the adapters. Hazard: Using power cords not intended for these adapters can pose a shock hazard. Remedy: Free retrofit kits are provided by the manufacturer. These retrofit kits will prevent incorrect cables from being connected to the adapters. In the meantime, consumers should only use the power cables intended for these adapters.

CPSC, Dell Announce Recall of AC Adapters for Latitude LM Notebook Computers and Latitude LM Port Replicators WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dell Computer Corp., of Round Rock, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 233,000 AC adapters supplied with its Latitude LM notebook computers and Latitude LM port replicators in the United States. Dell also is recalling these adapters throughout the world. The port replicator is a docking station used to connect the notebook computer to an external monitor and keyboard. The AC adapter's connector pins can break off from the adapter and remain in the power cord, posing a shock hazard. Dell has received 111 reports of the adapters' connector pins breaking off. No injuries have been reported. These black AC adapters come with the Dell Latitude LM notebook computers and port replicators. The adapters are 4 inches long by 2.25 inches wide and have one attached cord and one detachable power cord. The bottom of the adapter is labeled in part, "DELL...MADE IN TAIWAN." These adapter can be identified easily because the first eight digits of the "DP/N" bar code are "00097689" or "00099500." The "DP/N" bar code is on the bottom of the adapter. The only versions of the "00099500" adapters that are subject to this recall are those that have "A00, A01, A02, or A03" at the far right of the bar code. Dell DL-1460NI Computer Monitors Recalled Due To Fire Risk

May 20, 1994 Release # 94-077 PRODUCT: Approximately 63,000 Dell Model DL-1460NI 14 inch SVGA color computer monitors sold by Dell, Sam's Club, Costco, Price Club, and CompUSA. PROBLEM: Internal components may overheat causing a fire hazard. WHAT TO DO: Consumers using Dell computer monitors should look for the model number "DL-1460NI" on the back of the monitor. Those having model DL-1460NI monitors should call Dell at (800)913-3355 to arrange for shipping and repair of the monitor. WASHINGTON, DC -- CPSC, Dell Computer Corp., Austin, Texas is voluntarily recalling Dell model DL-1460NI 14 inch SVGA computer monitors. Internal components in the Dell model DL- 1460NI monitor can overheat, and the monitor can catch fire. Dell Computer Corporation has received 32 reports of monitors overheating, and in some cases, catching fire. None of the reported incidents involved personal injury and the reported fires did not spread. Dell reported this problem to the CPSC. Dell Computer imported the monitors from a Taiwanese manufacturer in 1992 and 1993. The involved monitors were sold by Dell directly, and at Sam's Club, Costco, Price Club, and CompUSA. Approximately 63,000 involved monitors are believed to be in use. Consumers using Dell computer monitors should look for the model number on the back of their monitors. Only model DL-1460NI monitors are involved. Consumers having these monitors should unplug the monitors, and call Dell's recall number (800) 913-3355 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Time, Saturday to arrange for free pick-up and repair of the monitors. Owners may also obtain information and register for repair through Dell's computer bulletin board (512-728-3589), the Dell forum on Compuserve and America On-Line.
