CPSC, Dell Announce Recall of AC Adapters for Latitude LM Notebook Computers and Latitude LM Port Replicators WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dell Computer Corp., of Round Rock, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 233,000 AC adapters supplied with its Latitude LM notebook computers and Latitude LM port replicators in the United States. Dell also is recalling these adapters throughout the world. The port replicator is a docking station used to connect the notebook computer to an external monitor and keyboard. The AC adapter's connector pins can break off from the adapter and remain in the power cord, posing a shock hazard. Dell has received 111 reports of the adapters' connector pins breaking off. No injuries have been reported. These black AC adapters come with the Dell Latitude LM notebook computers and port replicators. The adapters are 4 inches long by 2.25 inches wide and have one attached cord and one detachable power cord. The bottom of the adapter is labeled in part, "DELL...MADE IN TAIWAN." These adapter can be identified easily because the first eight digits of the "DP/N" bar code are "00097689" or "00099500." The "DP/N" bar code is on the bottom of the adapter. The only versions of the "00099500" adapters that are subject to this recall are those that have "A00, A01, A02, or A03" at the far right of the bar code. Dell Notebook Battery Recall
The recalled batteries were sold with or sold separately to be used with the following Dell notebook computers: Latitude™ D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810; Inspiron™ 6000, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 500m, 510m, 600m, 6400, E1505, 700m, 710m, 9400, E1705; Dell Precision™ M20, M60, M70 and M90 mobile workstations; and XPS,™ XPS Gen2, XPS M170 and XPS M1710. "Dell" and one of the following markings are printed on the batteries: "Made in Japan," "Made in China," or "Battery Cell Made in Japan Assembled in China." The identification number for each battery appears on a white sticker. Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Remedy: Consumers should stop using these recalled batteries immediately and contact Dell to receive a replacement battery. Consumers can continue to use the notebook computers safely by turning the system off, ejecting the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power the system until the replacement battery is received.

Dell Notebook Battery Recall
The recalled batteries were sold with the following Dell notebook computers: Latitude™ D410, D505, D510, D600, D610, D800, D810; Inspiron™ 510M, 600M, 6000, 8600, 9200, 9300, XPS Gen 2; and Dell Precision™ M20 and M70 mobile workstations. The batteries were also sold separately, including as secondary batteries and in response to service calls. The batteries insert into the battery bay located on the underside of the notebook. "Dell" and "Made in Japan" or "Made in China" are stamped on the batteries. The identification number for each battery appears on a white sticker. Customers should have this number available when they contact Dell to determine if their battery is part of the recall. Hazard: These batteries can overheat, which could pose a fire risk. Remedy: Customers should contact Dell to determine if their notebook computer battery is part of this recall. If it is, consumers should immediately stop using the battery as a power source for their notebook computer. Dell will provide a free replacement battery.

Dell Notebook Power Adapter Recall
Sold as an option for Dell notebook computers including their Latitude D400, D500, D505, D600, D800, X300, and Inspiron 300M, 500M, 510M, 600M, I8500 and I8600. "Dell," "Dell P/N W1451" is printed on top of the adapters. Hazard: Using power cords not intended for these adapters can pose a shock hazard. Remedy: Free retrofit kits are provided by the manufacturer. These retrofit kits will prevent incorrect cables from being connected to the adapters. In the meantime, consumers should only use the power cables intended for these adapters.
