TL;DR: Check These First

Make sure Fast Charging is enabled in Settings → Battery → More battery settings. Use the original Samsung charger and cable (or a certified 25W+ charger). Check if your phone is too hot—fast charging disables automatically above certain temperatures. Clean the charging port with a toothpick. If you enabled USB Debugging, disable it—it can break fast charging.

Step 1: Make Sure Fast Charging Is Actually Enabled

Go to Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → More battery settings. You'll see toggles for "Fast charging," "Super fast charging," and "Fast wireless charging." Make sure they're all turned on. After a software update, these settings sometimes get reset to off. While you're there, also check that "Protect battery" isn't limiting your charge to 85% (useful for battery longevity, but you should know it's on).

Step 2: Check Your Charger and Cable

Fast charging requires a compatible charger—at minimum 15W for "Fast charging" and 25W+ for "Super Fast Charging." The cable matters too. A damaged or cheap USB-C cable can bottleneck charging speeds even with a good charger. Try the cable that came in the box. If you're using a third-party charger, make sure it's Samsung-certified or supports USB Power Delivery (PD). Car chargers rarely support super fast charging. Check if your charger model has any safety notices →

Step 3: Clean Your Charging Port

Pocket lint builds up in the USB-C port over time. Even a small amount can prevent the cable from seating properly, which downgrades charging to "slow charging" or causes intermittent connections. Power off your phone. Use a wooden toothpick or plastic dental pick to gently scrape out debris. Don't use metal—you can damage the contacts. Compressed air can help too. You'd be surprised how much gunk comes out of a year-old phone.

Step 4: Let Your Phone Cool Down

Samsung phones disable fast charging when the battery gets too warm—it's a safety feature, not a bug. If your phone feels hot (from gaming, GPS navigation, or sitting in the sun), fast charging won't activate until it cools down. Take off the case, stop using the phone while charging, and move it somewhere cooler. Once the temperature drops, fast charging should resume automatically.

Step 5: Disable USB Debugging

This is a weird one, but confirmed by many users: having USB Debugging enabled can interfere with fast charging. Go to Settings → Developer options → USB debugging and turn it off. If you don't see Developer options, you probably don't have it enabled (which is fine). This issue seems related to how the phone negotiates power delivery over USB when debugging mode is active.
