TL;DR: The Quick Fixes

Check Settings → Battery to find the culprit app. Turn off Background App Refresh for battery hogs. Disable Bluetooth if you don't use it overnight. Enable Airplane Mode or Focus Mode before bed. If battery health is below 80%, consider a replacement. Most overnight drain is caused by one rogue app or poor signal forcing your phone to work harder.

Step 1: Find What's Actually Draining Your Battery

Go to Settings → Battery and scroll down to see battery usage by app over the last 24 hours or 10 days. Look for apps using way more than expected, especially ones showing high "Background Activity." Common culprits: Facebook, Instagram, email apps constantly syncing, and fitness apps tracking location. If you see an app using 20%+ overnight while you slept, that's your problem. Tap it to see if it's background activity or screen time.

Step 2: Disable Background App Refresh for Battery Hogs

Go to Settings → General → Background App Refresh. You can turn it off entirely (aggressive but effective) or selectively disable it for apps you don't need updating in real-time. Social media apps are the worst offenders—they don't need to refresh while you're asleep. Keep it on for essentials like Messages and Mail if you need overnight notifications. Step 3: Turn Off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Scanning

Bluetooth stays active for Find My network and AirPods detection even when you're not using it. If you don't have AirTags or need overnight device tracking, swipe down and tap the Bluetooth icon to disable it before bed. Also check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services and turn off "Wi-Fi Networking" and "Bluetooth" scanning if you don't need location-based features overnight.

Step 4: Use Focus Mode or Airplane Mode

The nuclear option that works: Airplane Mode before bed. No signal searching, no background syncing, minimal drain. Expect to lose only 1-3% overnight. If you need to receive calls, set up a Sleep Focus mode (Settings → Focus → Sleep) that silences non-essential apps and limits background activity. You can schedule it automatically based on your sleep schedule.

When It's Actually Your Battery

If nothing helps, check Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. Maximum capacity below 80% means your battery is significantly degraded—overnight drain is a symptom, not the cause. Apple offers battery replacement for around $89-$99 depending on model. If you're within AppleCare+ or an active repair program, it might be free.
